The Much-Anticipated Reissue of a Unique Guild Design With Versatile Electronics and a Modern Sound
This used, Korean made Guild ST-200 T-Bird is the reintroduction of a unique Guild classic made between 1964 and 1968 and popularized by guitar greats like Muddy Waters. With its unique asymmetrical ‘offset’ double cut Mahogany body and classic C-shaped Mahogany neck with a Pau Ferro fretboard with a 10“ radius, the S-200 T-Bird delivers classic looks and smooth playability. The neck has a solid and substantial feel, with smooth playability and the 24 3/4″ scale length lends itself to smooth vibrato and easy bends, perfect for blues and rock playing.
The ST-200 T-Bird features two Guild LB-1 humbucker pickups with copious switching reminiscent of other iconic offset guitars that are still popular to this day. The controls on this tone machine may seem to be very complex, but they are pretty straight-forward when you use them for a bit:
The switch near the bridge pickup switches the guitar between Mode 1 and Mode 2, or rhythm and lead modes. The three switches nearest the neck pickup only work while you are in Mode 2 and turn the pickups on and off, allowing you to blend bridge and neck pickup tones with ease for lead playing. Mode 1 gives you the bridge pickup with a special tone capacitor that delivers a bright single coil tone when engaged. Each mode has its own independent volume and tone control, and the knobs are visibly different so you can easily identify them while playing.
The hardware includes a Hagstrom-style vintage tremolo system that has the look and feel reminiscent of high end, vintage tremolo systems common on many other offset guitars. Other classic details include Grover Sta-Tite open gear tuning machines, and iconic asymmetrical headstock embossed with Guild’s logo and mother-of-pearl Thunderbird icon.
